How to properly care for red and swollen stitch scars?

Scar redness and swelling after surgery are common phenomena in the body's healing process, but proper care can relieve discomfort and speed up recovery. Silicone gel foam dressings are widely used in wound management in clinical practice due to their compliance and non-adhesive properties. The following is a professional guide to help you deal with postoperative swelling.

What causes postoperative swelling?

1. Surgical stimulation: During surgery, the soft tissue around the wound will inevitably be stimulated, to swelling.

2. Infection or inflammation: It may be caused by infection or inflammation at the surgical site.

3. Improper care: Excessive massaging or touching of the wound may increase swelling.

How to care for a wound after stitches?

During the first three days after surgery: Use ice packs or cold towels to reduce swelling for 15-20 minutes each time, repeat every 1-2 hours to help reduce swelling and pain.

Surgery: You can take Xiaotuozhi for three days. The recommended external ointment is Centella asiatica cream to help eliminate swelling.

Selection of stitch removal time: If there is local edema, it is recommended to remove the stitches as soon as possible after the regular stitch removal time to reduce tension time and prevent the wound from widening. It is recommended to use the tension-reducing patch together with the hydrocolloid dressing. The tension-reducing patch can vertically stick the wound skin closure strip from the middle of the wound and stick it from both ends of the wound to the middle to prevent the wound from splitting, thereby preventing scars.

After stitches are removed: Silicone gel scar dressing should be used promptly.

Dietary recommendations :

Recommended: Fresh, light foods rich in vitamins and protein, which help wound healing.

Avoid spicy, irritating foods and seafood, and avoid medicinal foods and tonic foods, to prevent high blood pressure and vasodilation causing secondary bleeding.

Postoperative redness and swelling Although common, it can be effectively relieved with proper care. If the swelling is severe or persists, seek medical attention immediately. Remember, proper postoperative care is the key to a quick recovery.
