How to take care of double eyelids after surgery?

Post-operative care for double eyelid surgery is a key step to ensure the effectiveness of the surgery. Here are some restatements of the key points of care:

Initial postoperative care

After double eyelid surgery, there may be a certain degree of swelling and bruising in the eyelid area, which is a normal physiological reaction. In the first few days after the operation, there may be obvious swelling and slight bleeding in the eye area.

On the day of surgery, the wound will be covered with gauze to protect the wound surface. It is recommended to return to the hospital for a dressing change on the first day after surgery. Within 48 hours after surgery, you can use ice to reduce eye swelling and bleeding and apply ice for 20 to 30 minutes each time, but be careful not to apply too much pressure on the eye to avoid damage to the surgical site.

Starting from the second day after surgery, gentle closed-eye exercises can be performed to promote the recovery of eye muscles.

Swelling subsides

Over time, the redness, swelling, and bruising after surgery will gradually subside, and the skin around the incision may feel itchy, which is a normal phenomenon in the healing process. To promote the reduction of swelling, you can raise your pillow appropriately at night to reduce the pressure on your eyes. It is very important to keep the wound clean and avoid smoking, drinking, staying up late, and overusing your eyes, which may aggravate eye swelling.

Post-suture care

The stitches can be removed about a week after the operation. After the stitches are removed, some medications can be used to prevent scar formation according to the doctor's advice.

The swelling of the eye will gradually decrease within 1 to 3 months after the stitches are removed, but there may be some slight swelling, which is normal.

Scar recovery period

3 to 6 months after surgery, eye scars may become more obvious. At this time, you should avoid touching your eyes frequently. You can use silicone gel dressings to block the evaporation of water on the scar surface to a certain extent, keep it moist, promote hydration, and inhibit excess tissue proliferation to avoid affecting the recovery of scars. It can be used to treat healed wounds and scars after the skin surface is sealed to prevent scar formation. It helps reduce scar formation by forming a protective film on the wound surface.

Final Forming Stage

About half a year to a year after the operation, the shape of the double eyelids will gradually stabilize. If you feel any discomfort during this period, you should communicate with your doctor in time to avoid any problems that may arise from self-treatment.
