Surgical exercise after ostomy

When you're recovering from surgery, you may not want to exercise very much at first, but exercise can help your body recover better. It will make your body more dynamic and stronger. Other complications can also occur with movement. And, in the long run, your stoma won't stop you from doing anything, be it swimming, dancing, gardening, or even running!

Exercise to meet a better self:

Make your pouch fit better: One of the great benefits of exercising is that it flattens your belly and fits the ostomy appliance more tightly, minimizing the risk of leakage.

Exercise will boost your confidence: So by exercising and losing weight, there is a good chance that you will reduce some of the problems you might otherwise have. When you start exercising, you will almost immediately feel an increased awareness of yourself. Exercise makes you feel better about yourself . This appreciation is very helpful in building self-confidence and can help you gain the energy and courage to really get back to the way you lived before surgery.

Exercise can relieve stress: An active lifestyle means a stronger heart, better blood circulation, better breathing, healthier skin, and more. It can also help boost your confidence and give you more overall energy. This will help relieve any stress you may feel after surgery.

Exercise is a process, please relax: start slowly, build gradually. You can start by walking to the end of the block every day.

What preparations are needed before exercising or exercising?

Easy exercises like running, walking, tai chi, etc. do not require special preparation. However, if performing strenuous exercise, such as swimming, cycling, ball games, fitness equipment, etc., which causes excessive flexion of the body and loosens or deforms the stoma chassis, we can choose a more viscous chassis. A chassis with good compliance, and the matching Longterm Medical ostomy belt should be worn to prevent leakage of the stoma chassis caused by exercise.

What should we pay attention to when doing outdoor sports?

It's a good idea to prepare a change of clothes and stoma care products with you to prevent embarrassment due to leakage of the stoma bag. Empty the ostomy bag before exercising, and protect the stoma during sports (basketball, volleyball) that may cause stoma injury. If there is any exercise that causes increased abdominal pressure, it is advisable to take precautions, such as wearing a stoma belt to protect the stoma , to avoid injury, or to avoid the occurrence of parastomal hernia and ileal prolapse. After exercising, check the stoma chassis for leakage in time.
