How to care after the scab falls off?

When the scabs fall off and new skin is exposed, it is a sign that the healing process has come to an end. But care at this stage is also crucial in order to restore the wound to a healthy and beautiful state. Here are some key care steps to help the wound be properly treated after the scabs fall off.

What is a scab?

The scab is a mass of necrotic tissue on the surface of the wound or sore and the platelets and fibrin produced by the wound. After the wound or sore heals, this layer of scab will fall off by itself.

After scabbing?

If the scab on the wound is very itchy, please do not pick at the scab to avoid bleeding or skin damage. If the itching is really unbearable, you can try to distract yourself, such as watching TV or listening to music, to relieve the itching and pain.

Why is the wound red after the scab falls off?

1. Inflammatory response

During wound healing, the body releases inflammatory mediators, such as platelets and white blood cells, to promote repair. These inflammatory responses may cause vasodilation and exudation, causing local redness, swelling, and erythema.

2. Pigmentation

In some people, melanocytes become abnormally active after being injured, causing pigmentation to form temporary red or dark brown marks during the healing process.

3. Changes in skin structure

After a wound heals, the new skin may be different from the surrounding tissue, and this structural change may also cause visual redness.

How to care after the scab falls off?

1. After the scab falls off, moist healing is still required. Choosing functional wound dressings can accelerate wound healing and reduce scar formation.

2. Pay attention to sun protection, which can reduce the melanin deposition on the wound. Many people think that you can't eat soy sauce after trauma. In fact, eating soy sauce will not leave black scars, but sun exposure will leave black scars on the wound.

3. If the wound is at the joint, the surface tension of the wound should be reduced to reduce the risk of scar formation.

4. Silicone gel scar dressing needs to be used for 3-6 months.
