Stoma bag care is an important task in the daily life of stoma patients. The correct care process can not only improve the quality of life of patients but also effectively prevent the occurrence of complications. The following is an introduction to the complete process of stoma bag care, including preparation, bag-changing process, and precautions. Let's take a look.
Item preparation :
Before starting ostomy bag care, you need to prepare the following items: base plate, ostomy bag, Skin Protective Powder, leak-proof patch ring, adhesive remover, body dressing, normal saline, sanitary tampons, cotton swabs, tissues, and trash can bags. The preparation of these items is the basis for ensuring a smooth nursing process.
1. Prepare saline solution: Soak five or six tampons and six or seven cotton swabs with saline solution. The mild nature of the saline solution helps cleanse the skin and reduce irritation.
2. Preheat the anti-leakage ring: Place the anti-leakage ring against the skin to warm it up before shaping (do not remove the plastic film before use). Preheating can increase the softness of the ring and make it fit the skin better.
Bag changing process :
1. Remove the bottom plate: lift up a corner of the bottom plate and spray it with adhesive remover. Slowly peel off the bottom plate, and when the leak-proof ring is exposed, use a paper towel to block the middle of the bottom plate, peel off the entire bottom plate, fold it inward, and throw it into the trash can. This step should be gentle to avoid unnecessary pulling and damage to the skin.
2. Skin cleaning: Use wet cotton balls, paper towels, and dry/wet cotton swabs to clean the skin alternately. Thorough cleaning helps reduce the risk of infection.
3. Use of Skin Protective Powder: Sprinkle a small amount of Skin Protective Powder and spread it evenly with a dry cotton swab. The whitish-raised areas indicate that there is residual glue. Use dry and wet cotton swabs alternately to remove them. Skin Protective Powder can form a protective layer to reduce direct contact between the skin and excrement.
4. Dry skin: After removing the glue, wipe the skin with a wet cotton ball to remove powder, debris, etc., making the skin smooth and clean, and spread it flat with a paper towel to dry it (do not rub hard to avoid leaving paper wool).
Skin Protective Powder around the outer circle of the stoma one centimeter, spread it evenly with a dry cotton swab so that the skin care powder covers the entire bottom area of the skin, and spray the skin with liquid dressing. After 20 seconds, the skin will be shiny after the liquid dressing dries, and repeat the above steps of sprinkling powder and spraying the dressing.
6. Shaping the anti-leak patch ring: Use the remaining wet cotton balls to clean your hands. After drying your hands with a paper towel, shape the inner ring of the anti-leak patch ring according to the size of the stoma. Generally, the inner ring is 1 mm away from the stoma, and it is centered around the stoma. Press it appropriately for a circle with your fingers.
7. Paste the bottom plate: twist the glue on the inner circle of the bottom plate outwards to make it 3 mm larger than the inner circle of the anti-leakage patch ring, then align it with the center of the stoma and press it for one circle to make the bottom plate fit the anti-leakage patch ring and the bottom plate fit the skin.
8. Install the ostomy bag: buckle the ostomy bag onto the chassis, press carefully once and check again, otherwise it is easy to leave a small gap (a "click" sound will be heard when pressing). Seal the bag opening. Fasten the belt.
Note :
1. Hand hygiene: Wash your hands with soap before the operation to avoid long nails touching mucous membrane tissue.
2. Paper towel selection: Use unscented paper towels from a big brand; white cotton swabs that do not drop lint.
3. Use of adhesive remover: Adhesive remover (large bottle) should not be sprayed on mucous membrane tissue and damaged skin.
4. Use of liquid dressing: Liquid dressing (small bottle) can be sprayed to fully cover the wound.
5. Apply Skin Protective Powder: Apply Skin Protective Powder in a thin and even layer. Do not apply too much as it will affect the viscosity.
6. Skin cleansing: Do not rub your skin vigorously when cleaning, otherwise it may easily damage the skin.
Treatment of skin inflammation: When the skin is inflamed, it is recommended to repeat the action of sprinkling powder and spraying auxiliary materials three times to increase protection for the skin.
8. Replacement time: Avoid changing the ostomy bag when it is easy to defecate.
I hope that through the above-detailed care process and precautions, friends with stomas can face daily life more confidently and comfortably. Proper stoma bag care not only helps maintain skin health but also improves the patient's quality of life.
