What should I do if the wound becomes festering?

In daily life, our skin may be damaged by accidental abrasions, cuts, or scratches. If not handled promptly or properly, these wounds may become infected and fester. How to deal with them correctly? Let's follow me to find out.

Why do wounds become festered?

When bacteria invade a wound, the body's immune cells will engage in a fierce "battle" with them. If the immune cells fail to successfully resist bacteria, such as Streptococcus pyogenes, the wound will become inflamed, and thick gray-yellow or yellow-white pus will appear. Pus will not only affect wound healing but may also increase the risk of scarring. Therefore, it is crucial to properly treat purulent wounds.

Steps for treating suppurative wounds :

Step 1: Clean the wound

Keeping the wound clean is key to preventing infection. Use saline to flush away pus and use a medical cotton swab to gently clean any remaining foreign matter.

Step 2: Treat/bandage the wound

After cleaning the wound, apply silicone gel foam dressing on the wound, which helps to create a moist environment, prevent infection, relieve pain, and reduce pigmentation. Silicone gel foam can quickly absorb wound exudate and reduce wound maceration. A good silicone gel layer helps to regulate the wound environment and promote the formation of healthy granulation tissue.

Step 3: Change the dressing

Daily dressing changes are necessary to prevent reinfection. As inflammation is controlled, pus will gradually decrease and the wound will begin to heal.

Tips:

1. Severe suppuration: If tissue necrosis, local swelling, pain, increased temperature, bulging of the skin, etc. occur, seek medical attention immediately.

2. Observe the wound: Closely observe the healing of the wound. If there are signs of deterioration, seek medical help promptly.

3. Follow doctor's orders: Take care of your wound according to your doctor's advice.

Although wound suppuration is worrying, we can effectively control the infection and promote wound healing through the correct treatment methods. Remember, keeping the wound clean, using appropriate anti-infection drugs, and changing the dressing regularly are the key steps in treating suppurative wounds. If you have any questions or concerns, consult a medical professional in time.
