How is wet healing better than dry healing?

With the deepening of medical research, the concept of moist healing has gradually become a new favorite in modern wound management. Moist healing not only subverts our traditional understanding of the wound healing environment but also shows significant superiority in clinical practice. This article compares the advantages of moist healing over dry healing and looks forward to its application prospects in wound care.

Why can moist healing make wounds recover faster?

First: Wound healing requires a moist environment and no scabs can form.

The wound contains exudate, and moist healing can maintain a moist environment, help the movement of tissue repair cells, provide the nutrients needed for cell metabolism, and assist the diffusion of growth factors and immune factors, thereby accelerating wound self-debridement and healing.

Second: The wound needs to be closed and cannot be opened.

1. Studies have shown that under anaerobic conditions, the rate of blood vessel proliferation in the wound is 6 times that in aerobic conditions, and the proliferation of new blood vessels increases as the oxygen content in the wound atmosphere decreases.

2. The skin is slightly acidic, which is an ideal wound healing environment. The closed wound environment is slightly acidic (6.4±0.5), while the pH of an open wound is 7.1. Fibroblasts need an acidic environment to produce collagen, which is the main component of granulation tissue.

Third: maintain a constant temperature.

Keeping the local temperature of the wound at 37 degrees, the cell mitosis rate increased by 108%, and the enzyme activity was at its best;

Each time the dressing is changed and disinfected, the temperature of the wound will be 2-5 degrees lower than the normal body temperature. Frequent dressing changes of conventional dressings will reduce the speed of wound healing. Functional wound dressings have these conditions: they can absorb exudate and keep the wound moist, are airtight, do not need to be changed frequently, do not stick to the wound, are comfortable, etc., so they can make the wound heal faster.

Why are moist wound healing dressings being promoted now?

The promotion of moist healing dressings is based on their significant advantages in wound care. Compared with traditional dry healing methods, moist healing dressings can provide a moist environment for the wound, which helps to accelerate the wound healing process. Under moist conditions, cells can crawl faster, which helps to repair the wound. It blocks the action of external microorganisms and reduces the chance of infection; this is because the moist dressing forms a barrier on the wound surface to protect the wound from external contamination; it reduces mechanical damage during dressing changes, thereby reducing the patient's pain; it helps the autolysis of necrotic tissue, accelerates the wound cleaning process, and creates conditions for the generation of fresh tissue.

The promotion of moist healing dressings is based on their remarkable effects in accelerating wound healing, reducing infection risks, alleviating pain and scar formation, etc. With the further recognition and acceptance of the moist healing concept by the medical community, the use of this dressing has become more and more widespread and has become an important part of modern wound care.
