Fixation of indwelling needles for children and the elderly - skillful use of self-adhesive bandages

The indwelling venous catheter is an ideal treatment method for elderly patients. It helps reduce venipuncture and dramatically improves the efficiency of nursing work. However, due to the thick and low elasticity of the blood vessel wall in elderly patients, the wrapping effect of the cannula is poor. During the indwelling period of the intravenous indwelling needle, the elderly are prone to adverse events such as detachment of the tube and displacement due to voluntary movement and turning over, thereby shortening the indwelling time of the intravenous indwelling needle and affecting the treatment effect. Studies have shown that using indwelling needle stickers and self-adhesive bandages after successful indwelling of intravenous needles plays an essential role in reducing adverse events. In the past, the traditional aseptic transparent applicator fixation was used to enhance the fixation effect. Usually, too much tape was used after the focus was successful. The air permeability was poor, which could easily lead to skin allergies. Viscose-related skin injury seriously reduces comfort. When the puncture limb is excessively active, it is still prone to detachment, displacement, and curling of the application, and the fixation effect is not ideal.

For people with thin stratum corneum and sensitive skin in children and the elderly, using too much medical tape for fixation will lead to adhesive-related skin damage and medical adhesion-related skin injury (MARSI). Erythema with or without skin abnormalities such as blisters, erosions, or tears appears on the skin for 30 minutes or more after removing the medical adhesive. Dressing removal is one of the leading causes of skin tear injuries. Cerebral angiography through the femoral artery approach is the gold standard for diagnosing cerebrovascular disease and the basis for neuro-interventional therapy. However, this method is an invasive examination. After surgery, the puncture site needs to be compressed with sandbags and bandaged with elastic bandages. Compression bandaging can easily lead to allergic reactions and blisters on the local skin of the patient. Skin damage occurs.

Features of Longterm Medical Self-Adhesive Bandages :

Self-adhesive elastic bandages and non-woven fabrics have strong stretchability and good flexibility. The standard production stretch rate is not less than 50%. The actual length after stretching can exceed 120% before stretching. The characteristics of natural latex are used to produce lasting Self-adhesive, self-adhesive, non-stick to skin and hair, painless to remove, can be used repeatedly; muscular flexibility can change the pressure by changing the length at will, the surface is soft and does not irritate the skin, substantial compliance, can be selected according to different parts Elastic bandages of various sizes can effectively prolong the indwelling time of the venous indwelling needle and are easy to remove, which is beneficial for patients to cooperate with treatment.

How to use the indwelling needle sticker combined with an elastic self-adhesive bandage:

After the successful placement of the venous indwelling needle transparent tube, then use a Longterm medical self-adhesive elastic bandage to wrap around the limb or head of the patient from the puncture site, choose an appropriate length and cut it, and then press the needle to handle to overlap the bandage at the broken part on the wrapped bandage, and apply light force. Press the application on the overlapping part, and the tightness of the bandage should be inserted into the operator's index finger and middle finger.

For children's head bandaging, the length of the bandage should be determined according to the size of the head, and the width of the application should be determined by the width of the forehead. Children over one year old should choose a bandage with a width of 6 cm, and children under one year old should use a bandage that is cut to 1/3 to 1/2 of the width to avoid the bandage being too wide to cover the eyes. When venipuncture and fixation of the limbs are performed, the proximal end of the elastic bandage is cut with a length of 5-7cm, and the thumb, heel, and elbow joints can be exposed when wrapping so as to avoid affecting the fixation effect when the joints move.

Because the medical self-adhesive elastic bandage increases the fixation effect, reduces the chance of frictional movement between the indwelling trocar and the puncture site, reduces the mobility of the trocar in the blood vessel, and the resulting mechanical damage to the venous intima. Thereby significantly reducing the incidence of puncture vascular phlebitis. Since the self-adhesive elastic bandage can reduce the complications during the patient's infusion process, prolong the use time of the venous indwelling needle, effectively promote the smooth progress of the venous infusion, and reduce the pain of repeated puncture of the patient, the patient's nursing satisfaction with the nursing staff is improved. , Self-adhesive elastic bandage group nursing satisfaction.
