be several reasons for the redness of the skin around the stoma. Some of the more common causes may include stool irritation or an allergy to a product you use. The characteristics of each will be discussed below.

①Consider whether it is caused by product allergy.

When cutting the chassis, there will be colloids cut out, which can be tested on the normal skin next to it for a day or two. If the skin is allergic to colloids, the skin will be obviously red, itchy, and rash. The hydrocolloid chassis is hypoallergenic. If the chassis of the same brand has had no allergies before, there will be no allergies in the future.

②Consider whether it is caused by excrement and water contact.

The most common type of ileostomy, redness of the skin around the stoma, with burning and itching, is the result of direct contact of stool with the skin. The stool from an ileostomy is corrosive and can cause damage to the skin in a short period of time. Damaged skin often causes itching and burning, especially if the stoma is functioning properly. You may also notice a small amount of bleeding from the skin if it is irritated for a prolonged period of time. If it is indeed an allergy caused by the chassis hydrocolloid, it is recommended to replace the ostomy bag.

It may also be fecal dermatitis caused by leakage. The fecal water has a relatively large irritation to the skin. Long-term leakage will cause inflammation of the stoma skin, redness, itching, and even skin breakage.

This stoma drain is low and prone to leaks.

How to properly care for the skin around the stoma?

1. Replace in time. Once leakage is found, replace the ostomy bag or chassis in time.

2. After cleaning the skin, apply stoma powder, try to dry the skin as much as possible to make the skin more breathable, and do not stick it immediately. The weather starts to get hot, and it is easy to cause rashes on the skin of some people after being stuffy for a long time;

3. It is recommended that skin protectants and stoma powder can be used alternately and repeatedly to strengthen the protection of the skin.

4. If the flat ostomy bag is easy to leak, it is recommended to use the convex ostomy bag, which is more suitable for the lower stoma.
