What is a scar? How did it come about ?
skin is the largest organ of our body. The skin is divided into two layers, the epidermis and the dermis , and the subcutaneous tissue, which is a deep layer mainly composed of connective tissue and fat. For a skin injury to leave a scar, it must affect at least the dermis and epidermis. More superficial wounds that affect only the epidermis and usually heal without leaving permanent marks. If the dermis is injured, the body tries to close the wound as quickly as possible to avoid infection.
There are three stages of wound healing:
①Cleaning phase: The body cleans the bacteria and dirt from the wound through bleeding and wound secretions.
② Healing stage: The wound begins to close slowly , and new skin or connective tissue cells are formed.
③ Reconstruction stage: Scar tissue is formed, mainly composed of collagen. Therefore, it looks very different from healthy skin.
Scar tissue is usually unpigmented: the affected area is paler than the surrounding skin. Also, they do not have sebaceous or sweat glands. As a result, scars often require special care, or they can dry and harden quickly.
1. How should different scars be treated?
Healthy scars are flat and soft. They do not cause pain or discomfort. However, there are other types of scars that are more troublesome both aesthetically and medically:
①Keloids: caused by the overproduction of skin tissue , known as fibrous hypertrophic scars, which evolve over time, months or even years after skin trauma. Scar tissue extends beyond the wound edge, and fibroblasts in the skin produce too much collagen, causing the epidermis to thicken , rough skin, swelling, redness, and scarring pain or itching , which may be called keloids. This type of scar extends from a few millimeters to several centimeters around the scarred area. Their colors can vary: white, pink, red, brown . The evolution of keloids can occur two to three months or even two to three years after skin trauma.
②Hypertrophic scars: Hypertrophic scars are characterized by mild relief, parallel edges, and usually early progression. Their development sometimes begins one to two months after skin trauma and can last for up to two years. This type of scarring is usually limited to the anterior chest area (sternum), the angle of the jaw, and adjacent areas (cheeks, neck, ears, etc).
③ Atrophic scars: These are sunken scars that appear below the normal level of the skin, the body is unable to fill in the injured tissue, and the edges of the wound are not fused together. As a result, atrophic scars develop depressions, as is the case with acne or chickenpox scars. Therefore, it is a defect in the production of connective tissue. In most cases, this scarring is a sequelae of acne.

3. How to make scars recover better?
Lightening a scar is a process that can take up to a year to fully heal depending on the size and depth of the wound. However, there are some ways to keep the scar tissue as small as possible during the healing process
Tips:
To avoid sun exposure to the scarred area , be sure to apply a high SPF sunscreen when outdoors. And avoid stretching or pressure, as this can stimulate the growth of scar tissue. The affected part should be kept as still as possible. If you are physically active, practice in moderation for the first few weeks. Also keep the wound clean and treated to prevent infection. Make sure the scar can breathe as it heals. Scratching an itchy scar should be avoided , by scratching the wound, you are stimulating tissue formation, which can cause the scar to swell . Apply these methods combined with the use of scar dressings, and I believe your scars will slowly disappear.
