Wounds that continue to exude?

In daily life, if you accidentally get injured and the wound continues to ooze fluid, it will indeed make you feel distressed and worried. Are you worried that the wound will heal very slowly? Or that the wound will not heal at all? In fact, as long as you understand it correctly, you will not panic.

What are the stages of wound healing?

After an injury, the wound will go through the coagulation phase, inflammation phase, repair phase, and maturation phase. After the wound is formed, the body's first reaction is to start the coagulation mechanism to stop bleeding. Platelets gather at the wound to form a blood clot, which effectively stops bleeding. Then it destroys bacteria and removes necrotic tissue, laying the foundation for tissue regeneration and repair. The inflammatory phase lasts about 4 to 6 days and is accompanied by symptoms such as redness, swelling, heat, and pain. Next, new cells begin to appear, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, etc. proliferate and differentiate, new capillaries are formed, and together they form granulation tissue, filling and covering the wound to form a scar. The duration of the proliferative phase varies, mostly 4-24 days.

Over time, scar tissue and scabs that repair the wound gradually adjust to the physiological function, and the repaired tissues eventually improve the appearance and function of the injured part. This stage generally lasts from 21 days to 1 year. These stages are distinct from each other, but also interconnected, and are a continuous process.

What are the symptoms of the inflammatory exudative phase?

Bacteria invade damaged skin, they cause infection, which manifests as redness, swelling, pain, fever, and itching. Exudate often continues to increase, which is particularly obvious during the coagulation and inflammation stages. The inflammatory exudate stage refers to a pathological process in which white blood cells gather in large numbers and release inflammatory factors after local tissues of the body are stimulated, leading to fluid exudation.

Three steps of protection :

1. Keep the wound clean: Gently wash the wound with saline or a mild antiseptic solution to remove dirt and bacteria.

2. Use functional wound dressings: Choose appropriate dressings according to the condition of the wound. If there is a lot of exudate, it is recommended to use silicone gel foam dressings, which can absorb a large amount of exudate. At the same time, changing the dressing can also avoid secondary damage to the wound and accelerate wound healing.

3. Prevent infection: Strictly adhere to the principles of aseptic operation, avoid touching the wound with your hands, and use antibiotics for treatment when necessary.

Persistent wound exudate may be a sign of an inflammatory response and requires appropriate care measures. Silicone gel foam dressings, as an effective wound care material, can help manage exudate, relieve pain, and promote wound healing. By keeping the wound clean, changing the dressing regularly, and preventing infection, we can effectively deal with bacterial invasion and promote wound recovery. In any case, if the wound condition does not improve or worsens, medical help should be sought in time.
