Surgery is an important means of treating many diseases, but wound care after surgery is equally important. Proper wound care can not only speed up the healing process but also minimize the formation of scars. Here are some key care steps to help you achieve the wound recovery after surgery and avoid scarring as much as possible.
Step 1: Suturing method: The type is a cosmetic tension-reducing suture, which can make scars as small as possible and more beautiful, but it increases the cost of consumables and requires additional charges. The second type is an ordinary surgical suture, which is a more economical and time-saving suture method, but it is easy to have ugly scars after the sutures are removed and healed, such as "centipede scars"
Try to communicate with the doctor and choose a super-tension-reducing cosmetic suture. If the post-operative care is good, you can achieve socially seamless surgery.
Step 2: Healing method: Try to perform moist healing as soon as possible after the wound is sutured! Some doctors will apply ointment + gauze after suturing. The wound will be moist and no hard scab will form. We call this kind of healing "moist healing"
Wounds that heal with moisture will recover faster and reduce scar formation. Wounds with blood scabs will be wider and more concave than wounds without blood scabs. The heavier, thicker, and wider the blood scabs are, the wider and more concave the wound will be.
Step 3: Post-suture care to prevent scars from widening. Start controlling the width of the wound as soon as possible after removing the sutures, that is, reducing tension. Do not wait for the scab to fall off naturally. Apply a thin layer of erythromycin ointment, and then gently remove the scab with a cotton swab.
Tension is the main reason for scar widening and scar hyperplasia. After surgery, you need to use a tension reducer/tension patch/elastic sleeve to prevent scar hyperplasia and widening. Generally, it will be removed after half a year when the scar becomes flat/no longer red. Compression is also an effective way to prevent scar hyperplasia. For example, after a cesarean section, it is recommended to wear an elastic bandage. Regarding the selection and use of tension reducers, I have also mentioned it in my previous notes, you can take a look.
Step 4: Prevent scar hyperplasia Use scar cream immediately after removing the stitches (3-7 days) to inhibit scar hyperplasia. It should be used continuously for at least 6 months. Scar formation can be divided into the immature stage and the mature stage. The 1-6 months is the golden period for scar repair. At this time, you must use scar-lightening products. The earlier you use it, the better. When it reaches the mature stage, scar cream is not very useful.
Step 5: Prevent scars from sinking. If you find that the scar has a tendency to sink, you can spray the Beifuji Growth Factor once or twice a day to promote wound healing and growth.
Depressed scars are probably the scars frequently asked about by parents, especially scars from forehead trauma. In nine out of ten cases, there will be depressions. This is because the fat layer under the forehead is very weak, and even with careful sutures, adhesions, and depressions are likely to occur.
Step 6: Prevent scar pigmentation. The epidermis of a newly healed incision is very delicate and prone to pigmentation after exposure to the sun. Be sure to pay attention after surgery and try not to expose the wound directly to sunlight to prevent pigmentation. Related studies have shown that early exposure of scars to ultraviolet rays will significantly increase pigmentation. Incisions on exposed parts such as the head and face should be protected from the sun in the early stages. You can choose physical sunscreen (umbrellas, sun-proof clothing), chemical sunscreen (applying sunscreen), scar lightening + sunscreen ( silicone gel scar stickers ), and sun protection should be continued until the scar enters the mature stage.
Proper care of surgical wounds is essential to minimize scarring. By taking good care of your wound and following the advice of your professional doctor, you can promote healing of your wound and minimize the effects of scarring. Remember, everyone's healing process is unique, and patience and proper care are key to achieving the results. By taking the steps above, you can achieve better recovery after surgery and minimize scarring.
