Why is the wound swollen?

It is abnormal for the wound to be swollen! There are many reasons for the wound to be red and swollen. Let me tell you what the reasons are.

What are the symptoms associated with wound swelling?

The swelling of the wound will be accompanied by fever. If you touch the wound and the surrounding skin with the back of your hand, you will find that the temperature of the wound and the surrounding skin is higher than other parts. In this case, you should consider the possibility of infection. Some wounds will also be accompanied by obvious pain, especially when touching the wound or moving the injured part. Some wounds are soft and fluctuate when touched, with yellow, green, or gray purulent secretions. If there is local congestion and exudation, you also need to consider whether there are some problems with the surgery. If the wound is severely swollen, please seek medical attention in time for causal treatment and symptomatic treatment. If the above symptoms occur, you should check the local blood circulation disorder of the wound in time, and check whether the dressing is too tight and hinders blood circulation. When the blood circulation is impaired, the skin of the wound will generally appear bluish-purple, the local skin temperature will be cold, and the affected limb will feel numb.

How to treat swollen wounds?

First, disinfect the wound and remove the thick secretions from the wound, then disinfect with iodine, and then apply an antibiotic ointment (for example, mupirocin ointment is better), change the dressing once a day, and all items that directly contact the wound must be sterile. At the same time, take oral antibiotics as prescribed by the doctor. Note: Because wound treatment involves aseptic operation, sometimes there is a situation where the wound characteristics and other conditions require flexible treatment (especially when removing pus, be careful to avoid secondary damage to the wound, and it must be cleaned up completely), so please go to a regular hospital for professional treatment in time when conditions permit.
