How to treat peri-wound dermatitis?

In the daily wound care process, sometimes due to physical reasons or contact with certain irritating and allergenic substances, dermatitis symptoms may appear around the wound, which undoubtedly brings considerable challenges to the recovery of the wound surface. Symptoms of dermatitis may include erythema, exudation, vesicles, scaling, and itching, some of which develop rapidly, while others may gradually evolve into chronic dermatitis, increasing the difficulty of treatment.

Types and treatments of dermatitis:

Dry eczema: Especially common in the elderly, due to skin aging and seasonal factors, the skin may crack and scale. We can relieve symptoms through gentle washing and moisturizing, using skin softeners such as petrolatum and paraffin ointment to provide necessary moisture to the affected area.

Acute erosive eczema: Patients may develop dense papules, blisters, etc., accompanied by severe itching. At this time, we can use diluted boric acid and potassium permanganate solution for local infiltration and wiping to relieve itching symptoms. If necessary, we can also use corticosteroids such as betamethasone and beclomethasone dipropionate for short-term treatment, but we must pay attention to gradually reducing the dosage and avoid long-term use.

Contact dermatitis: It can be divided into two types: irritant and allergic. For this type of dermatitis, we need to  find and remove the allergens to avoid further irritation. During the treatment process, antibiotic ointments and soothing drugs can be used to control inflammation. At the same time, appropriate anti-inflammatory drugs can also be selected according to the patient's specific situation, such as glucocorticoids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and calcineurin inhibitors.

Dietary taboos tips:

High-sugar foods: cakes, milk tea, carbonated drinks, candies,

high-oil foods: braised pork, barbecue,

spicy foods: peppers, leeks, celery, onions, ginger, garlic, pepper, pepper,

light-sensitive foods: lemons, potatoes, coriander, spinach, amaranth, carrots,

hot foods: mango, pineapple, lychee, lamb, longan, Chinese cabbage, sorghum,

iodine-rich foods: kelp, seaweed, shellfish, fish,

When facing the problem of dermatitis around the wound, we need to identify its type and cause, and then take appropriate care measures. At the same time, we should also avoid using drugs at will, especially hormone drugs, so as not to cause adverse effects on the wound. When necessary, we should seek the help of professional doctors and develop a correct treatment plan to ensure the smooth recovery of the wound.
