Why do scars become raised after healing?

After the skin is injured, the body initiates a series of complex biological processes to repair the damage, a process known as wound healing. Wound healing is a natural, orderly regeneration process that is usually divided into three phases: the inflammatory phase, proliferative phase, and maturation phase. However, sometimes scars heal with raised areas, which can be caused by a variety of factors.

Why do scars become raised?

Scars are a benign proliferation of subcutaneous tissue. Generally, they will not be bulged out obviously. However, some people have scar-prone constitutions or inadequate care, so scars will protrude from the surface of the skin. When the skin is stimulated by external damage or inflammation occurs inside the skin, subcutaneous tissue hyperplasia often occurs, causing the scar to protrude. However, the hyperplasia is not obvious in people, and the hyperplasia will stop after the inflammation subsides. For people with scar-prone constitutions, when the inflammation subsides, the subcutaneous tissue hyperplasia will continue to grow, thus protruding above the surface of the skin. Sometimes the appearance is more obvious, forming a pimple. In addition, some people have local tissue edema or inflammatory hyperplasia due to deep subcutaneous injuries and inadequate care, and the wound becomes red, swollen, and bulging. The scar will also protrude after healing.

How to prevent this from happening?

Silicone gel scar dressing has a significant effect on reducing scar protrusion. It promotes scar softening and flattening by maintaining a moist environment in the scar area. Silicone gel dressing can also regulate collagen synthesis and reduce excessive collagen deposition in scar tissue, thereby reducing the risk of scar protrusion. It can also effectively reduce pain and itching in the scar area and improve the patient's daily comfort. Long-term application can also improve the color and texture of scars, making them gradually closer to the state of normal skin and reducing the difference in appearance.

Scar elevation is a complex biological phenomenon that is influenced by many factors. Taking appropriate precautions during the recovery period can help reduce the risk of scar elevation. If scars have already formed, a variety of treatments can help improve their appearance and texture and improve the patient's quality of life. All treatments must be performed under the guidance of a professional doctor to ensure safety and effectiveness.
